In 1978, the Polonez was the only car produced in the Eastern Bloc countries to pass American crash tests, which proved that the level of passenger safety was high and compliant with standards. In 1994, similar tests were conducted according to European standards – after which it began to be exported globally, with the highest sales in China, where over 41,000 units were delivered.

The technical solutions of the car, which the French would call a polonaise, were mostly borrowed from its predecessor, the Polski Fiat 125p. Until the mid-1990s, the Polonez had brakes adapted from its "older brother," which were too weak for its weight, and this met with general criticism. So perhaps the Polonez isn't the dream car for parallel parking on a steep incline, but it certainly looks great on a t-shirt – red, like lemonade, or green, like grass freshly painted green.

The drawing is by Wrocław artist Paweł Grabowski.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0988/0770/9992/files/POLONE_CZE-MUG-01-BI_1adeb188-cb68-4453-a2a4-6ed5a44a860f.png?v=1777990626
kubek-osa
Wasp — mug

Osa ceramic mug

Mug capacity: 330 ml

WFM Osa

In the 1950s, three engineers, Krzysztof Brun, Jerzy Jankowski, and Tadeusz Mathia, created a unique scooter, which was christened with the modest nickname Osa (Wasp). It was a flawed model, but it had a load capacity of up to 8 tons – it was the only Polish-made truck of its kind until then. Despite increasingly better results, the Jelcz vehicles did not satisfy the manufacturers. Therefore, in 1972, the Automotive Works turned to the Austrian company Steyr-Daimler-Puch with a proposal for cooperation. From then on, Austrian components were used in Polish trucks. In Poland, the Maluch was produced by the Fabryka Samochodów Małolitrażowych "Polmo" Bielsko-Biała in Bielsko-Biała and Tychy. The progenitor of this PRL-era icon was the Italian Fiat 500, which, although comparably iconic – and more elegant than the Maluch – could never take the place that our hero occupies in the cultural consciousness of Poles.

The Polish Fiat, whose peak popularity in Poland was in the 1980s, also found a group of users in Australia between 1989 and 1992, becoming the cheapest car on the smallest continent. The 99 model was produced between 1968 and 1984, and was the first mass-produced vehicle to be equipped with a turbocharger. The prototype of the 99 was first presented two years before production began, under the name "Paddan," which means "toad" in English. The nickname is not surprising, as the reliable Saab with its short, "humped" rear indeed resembles this swamp amphibian.

The body of the 99 model was intended to be streamlined and aerodynamic, which wonderfully harmonized with the idea of a turbocharger. As a Swedish car, the Saab was also designed with the highest level of passenger safety in mind, which is why, in addition to equipping it with seat belts, many drastic tests were also carried out, all of which proved the durability and safety that characterized the machine.

During its 16 years of production, the Saab 99 saw many versions, including a two- and four-door sedan, a three-door hatchback, and a Turbo version equipped with a 2-liter engine with 145 hp. Among the many technical innovations that its users could enjoy were heated seats and headlight washers and wipers. A total of almost 600,000 units were produced, which to this day are gems among all youngtimers.

The drawing was created by Jarosław Danielak.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0988/0770/9992/files/SAAB99_CZE-MUG-01-BI_71fdd181-799b-4e98-848b-cf52b77f2793.png?v=1777990729
kubek-straz-pozarna
Fire Department — mug

Ceramic mug Fire Brigade

Mug capacity: 330 ml

Star 266 – Fire Brigade

The Star 266 is a true star among Polish off-road trucks, being standard equipment for the Polish Army. The Soviet M 72s, produced in the city of Irbit beyond the Urals, were one of Stalin's planned initiatives aimed at modernizing the army. The Ural as we know it gained popularity only after the war - in the 1960s, the frame and suspension were changed, and one of its versions featured a new engine with a power of 32 HP. In the 1990s, the Irbit factory was privatized, and the era of Ural production definitively came to an end.
