Why? Because since 1980, when its first version rolled off the assembly line, it was a symbol of freedom and "neighborhood glamor" for its owners. For a machine originating from socialist East Germany, the Simson was characterized by solid construction, which earned it a reputation as a trouble-free moped (it is worth mentioning that in the then People's Republic of Poland, no driving license was required to operate a moped, and no one bothered to wear a helmet). Moreover, with favorable conditions, it could reach a speed of 60 km/h.

"Simak," as it was affectionately called, was an incredibly rare commodity, and consequently, perpetually sought after. Only a select few could endlessly admire its chrome and polish the paint in the privacy of their own garage. Nevertheless, enough S51 models were in circulation that, in the popular imagination, the machine became an icon, and despite its East German origins, it is treated with great enthusiasm in our country.

The drawing's author is Wrocław artist Paweł Grabowski.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0988/0770/9992/files/SIMS51-MUG-01-BI_5287d72d-7a11-47c0-a075-89811bd84893.png?v=1777990674
