It was created as a more dynamic version of the Škoda 100\/110, with which it shared a rear-engine platform. Its two-door body and sleek lines gave it a distinctive look that stood out among contemporary cars from the Eastern Bloc. The 110 R model became the basis for the creation of high-performance versions – including the famous Škoda 130 RS, known as the \"Porsche of the East\". Thanks to this, Škoda gained recognition in international rallies and races.
