The "Cucumber" arrives straight from Jelcz-Laskowice!
The Jelcz 272 MEX joins its older brother, the Jelcz 043, already available on nikiniki, as a version adapted for urban public transport. Both models received the affectionate nickname "Cucumber" due to their oval, elongated bodywork.
The 272 MEX version is actually a licensed variant of the Czechoslovak Škoda 706 RTO MTZ/MEX buses with bodywork designed by Karosa. Due to its prevalence, it would be hard to find anyone unfamiliar with the popular "Cucumber," one of the greatest classics of Polish motoring. Buses with red bodywork were used for urban public transport, while those with blue were for intercity transport.
The Jelcz 272 MEX made its mark not only on the streets but also in culture – it appeared, among others, in the iconic TV series "Daleko od szosy" and the film "777." Looking at it today, many people surely reminisce with nostalgia about how this exceptionally distinctive bus conquered Polish roads.
