Volkswagen Golf Mk II

The second generation Volkswagen Golf first appeared in 1983, soon taking third place in the 1984 European Car of the Year award. Despite an interior that was, at best, rather spartan, the Golf performed brilliantly in various conditions and gave the driver a lot of fun – especially if it was equipped with a sunroof.

With its 55-litre fuel tank, a rather large boot, and space for five people, the Golf II was an optimal solution for lovers of holiday trips and excursions. Its market competitors included the Fiat Tipo and Toyota Corolla, but they had nothing that could compare to its feisty character (which some call "lack of subtlety" in terms of design), typical of Herbert Schäfer's designs.

By 1992, when production ended, over 6,300,000 units of the second-generation Golf had rolled off the assembly line. The model became well-known and liked, and is still a common sight on European roads today. It is also often seen on nikiniki T-shirts and sweatshirts, worn by true fans of the youngtimer.
