Pafawag 201E ET22 Bison Locomotive

The Bison, also known by the nickname Helmut, was created in the 1960s in response to the electrification of Polish railway lines and the development of the mining and processing industries. The first two ET22 units left the Pafawag factory in Wrocław in 1969, thus beginning the fruitful twenty-year production of this powerful electric locomotive.

Despite their enormous dimensions, the 120-tonne ET22 units can reach speeds of up to 125 km/h. The ET22 locomotive was primarily designed for freight transport, but it was also assigned to passenger transport. During the twenty years of production, 1184 ET22 locomotives were built for PKP, as well as 23 units for the Moroccan carrier ONCF.
