The "Ogórek" arrives straight from Jelcz-Laskowice!

The Jelcz 272 MEX joins its older brother, the Jelcz 043, already available on nikiniki, being a version adapted for urban public transport. Both models received the affectionate nickname "Ogórek" (Cucumber), which they owe to their oval, elongated body.

The 272 MEX version is actually a licensed variant of the Czechoslovak Škoda 706 RTO MTZ/MEX buses with a body designed by Karosa. Due to its prevalence, it's hard to find anyone unfamiliar with the popular "Ogórek," which is one of the greatest classics of Polish automotive history. Buses with red bodies were used for urban transport, while those with blue bodies were for intercity transport.

The Jelcz 272 MEX made its mark not only on the streets but also in culture – it appeared in the cult TV series "Daleko od szosy" (Far from the Road) and the film "777." Looking at it today, many people surely recall with nostalgia how this exceptionally characteristic bus conquered Polish roads.

Jelcz 272 MEX – model history

The Jelcz 272 MEX was produced between 1963 and 1977 and was an evolution of the design known from the Jelcz 043 model. The bus was based on the Czechoslovak Škoda 706 RTO MTZ and Škoda 706 RTO MEX models.

Production took place in Jelcz-Laskowice in Lower Silesia, at the Jelcz Automotive Plants. The brand name Jelcz comes from the name of the town.
