It is recognized not only by avid railway enthusiasts but also by average citizens who have been riding the "kibel" since childhood. It earned this nickname due to the characteristic smell inside the vehicle, and the extremely "comfortable" plastic seats, of course found on the longest routes, contributed to its moniker "ortopeda". Memories associated with the EN57 train mean that railway jargon has plenty of room for its many designations.

Polish railways have something to boast about – the EN57 has been dubbed the longest-produced rail vehicle in the world. Between 1962 and 1993, over 1429 units of this model were produced at the Pafawag factory in Wrocław, and upgrades to individual units continue to this day.
