Saab 99

The Saab 99 is an iconic car whose reputation has long since extended beyond its native Sweden. The 99 model was produced from 1968 to 1984, and it was the first mass-produced vehicle to be equipped with a turbocharger. The prototype of the 99 was first presented two years before production began, under the name "Paddan," which translates to "toad" in English. The nickname is not surprising, as the reliable Saab with its short, "humped" rear indeed resembles this swamp amphibian.

The bodywork of the 99 model was intended to be streamlined and aerodynamic, which perfectly harmonized with the idea of a turbocharger. As a Swedish car, the Saab was also designed with the highest level of passenger safety in mind. Therefore, in addition to fitting it with seatbelts, many drastic tests were also conducted, which consistently proved the durability and safety that characterized the machine.

During its 16 years of production, the Saab 99 saw many versions, including a two- and four-door sedan, a three-door hatchback, and a Turbo version equipped with a 2-liter engine producing 145 hp. Among the many technical innovations that its users could enjoy were heated seats and headlight washers and wipers. In total, almost 600,000 units were produced, which remain gems among all youngtimers today.
