Volkswagen Transporter T1

The Volkswagen T1, the first-generation Transporter, was created in 1950, exactly 70 years ago. This venerable old-timer is one of the most admired and spectacular solutions presented by the VW brand, as evidenced by its enduring popularity to this day. Although it was designed with the functions of a delivery van in mind, it quickly saw passenger versions or those combining features of a delivery van and a minibus. One of the great strengths of the T1's manufacturers was their effort to adapt the production of new models to customer needs.

The T1 achieved immense popularity worldwide, which it earned with its rarely encountered universal character. Depending on the version, it could accommodate 2 to 9 people, and its top speed reached 75 km/h. The Transporter was also a favorite vehicle in hippie circles, and as a result, throughout the 1960s, it accompanied groups of laughing flower children on journeys to warmer climates. Production of the T1 ended in 1967, but this was not its definitive end. The VW Transporter is still a highly sought-after model – just like its successor, the second-generation Transporter.
