ET22 Byk Baseball Cap

Pafawag 201E ET22 Byk Locomotive

The Byk, also known by the nickname Helmut, was created in the 1960s in response to the electrification of Polish railway lines and the development of the mining and processing industries. The first two ET22 units rolled out of the Pafawag factory in Wrocław in 1969, marking the beginning of a fruitful twenty-year production run for this powerful electric locomotive.

Despite its enormous size, the 120-tonne ET22 units are capable of reaching speeds of up to 125 km/h. The ET22 locomotive was primarily designed for freight transport, but it was also assigned to passenger services. During its twenty years of production, 1184 ET22 locomotives were built for PKP, as well as 23 units for the Moroccan carrier ONCF.
