Škoda 706 RTO
The Škoda 706 RTO was an urban and intercity bus produced in Czechoslovakia between 1958 and 1972. It was developed from the earlier Škoda 706 RO model, using the same truck chassis but with a more streamlined, distinctive body. Over time, the RTO became one of the most recognizable buses in Eastern Bloc countries.
In Poland, buses of this type were widely used by PKS (State Motor Transport) and municipal transport companies. Comfortable for its time, they gained popularity due to their reliability and large capacity. The letters "RTO" stand for "rychlý, trambusový, osobní" – meaning fast, trambus (chassis-framed) passenger bus.
