It earned this nickname due to the characteristic smell inside the vehicle, and the extremely "comfortable" plastic seats, of course available on the longest routes, contributed to its "orthopedist" moniker. Polish railways have something to boast about — the EN57 was dubbed the longest-produced rail vehicle in the world. Between 1962 and 1993, over 1429 units of this model were produced at the Pafawag plants in Wrocław, and modernizations of individual units continue to this day.
