Volkswagen Golf Mk II

The second-generation Volkswagen Golf first appeared in 1983, soon taking third place in the 1984 European Car of the Year awards. Despite an interior that was quite spartan at best, the Golf performed excellently in various conditions and gave the driver a lot of fun – especially if it was equipped with a sunroof.

With its 55-liter fuel tank, a rather large trunk, and space for five people, the Golf II was an optimal solution for lovers of holiday trips and excursions. Its market competitors included the Fiat Tipo and Toyota Corolla, but they had nothing that could rival its feisty character (what some call a "lack of subtlety" in design), typical of Herbert Schäfer's projects.

By 1992, when production ended, over 6,300,000 units of the second-generation Golf rolled off the assembly line. The model became well-known and liked, and to this day is a common sight on European roads. It is also frequently seen on nikiniki t-shirts and hoodies, worn by true youngtimer fans.
