Volkswagen Transporter T2

The second-generation Volkswagen Transporter, known as the T2, was produced in Germany from 1967 to 1979. Production then moved to Mexico and Brazil, where the rounded T2 earned the Portuguese nickname "loaf of bread" and was produced until 2013. In Poland, it was known affectionately as "Ogórek" (Cucumber), which – similar to its Portuguese name – perfectly reflected the character of its elongated and rounded body.

Despite several competing vehicles, such as the Citroen H Van or the Renault Estafette, only the T2 became a model recognized and beloved on such a wide scale. This was due to the fact that not only wealthy Western European families had the "Ogórek" for their holidays – the T2 also became an icon in the USA, where it transported American hippies across all the scenic states. Thus, the second-generation Transporter was a symbol of cultural changes that allowed more people a higher standard of living.
