Volkswagen Transporter T2

The second-generation Volkswagen Transporter, known as the T2, was produced in Germany from 1967 to 1979, after which production was moved to Mexico and Brazil. There, the T2 earned the Portuguese nickname "bread loaf" and was produced until 2013. In Poland, it was affectionately known as the "Cucumber," which – similar to its Portuguese name – accurately reflected the elongated and rounded shape of its body.

Despite several competing vehicles, such as the Citroen H Van or the Renault Estafette, only the T2 became a widely recognized and beloved model. This was due to the fact that not only wealthy Western European families had the "Cucumber" available for holidays – the T2 also became an icon in the USA, where it transported American hippies across all the picturesque states. Thus, the second-generation Transporter was a symbol of cultural changes that allowed more people a higher standard of living.
